A pot luck gathering was hosted by Pierre Fan – our board member on Saturday (Nov 29, 2008).).
Despite the heavy snowfall, a number of board members and alumni members showed up with their home-made dishes or food from their favourite restaurants. It was a warm and casual gathering, we chatted about those good old days at university and current political and economic conditions. We had a good time sharing jokes and yummy recipes. The Wii Sports never fails to be an inspiration to us all. Although mentees seem to do better in more energetic sports such as downhill ski and tennis, mentors took the lead in meditation and yoga.
We appreciate the hospitality of Pierre and his wife, Teresa!

We went for a hike on Seaton Trail to appreciate fall colours on Sunday (October 5th, 2008).
This is a 3.5 hour level 2 hike (according to Bruce Trail Club hike difficulty level). We have enjoyed the company of our usual hiking buddies at Tai Chi Group and Mr. Stephen Siu – Assistant Director Public Relations at Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office. What a great way to stretch muscles, make new friends and enjoy the great wilderness of Ontario!
We have also discovered another talent of Stephen, our friend at HKETO. His professional portraits of landscape and colours speak it all!

May 4, 2008 Spring Hiking in Rouge River Valley

On May 4 2008 we organized a leisure hike in Rouge River Valley in Scarborough. It was a fine day with cool temperature. There were about 20 of us including alumni and friends gathering at the Glen Rouge Camping Ground. While waiting for the start of the hike, we enjoyed ourselves chatting in the shade of the trees. The hike started at 3.30 p.m. sharp as planned. The hiking trail was generally in good condition except for certain parts where traits of melted snow were found.
It was spring time dressed up in new leaves and budding wild flowers. Everyone enjoys nature and fresh air after such a long winter. We hiked the woods, ridges, and valleys and walk along the railway track and the river. We found that the three hour journey came to an end so quickly. To continue the fun, most of the participants went to dinner together at the Fisherman Villa Restaurant nearby.

2008 Annual Dinner was held on March 30th (Sunday) at Diamond Banquet Hall in Markham. We celebrated another year of success and also the ranking of alma mater as world’s 18th best university by the Times Higher Education Supplement. It was well attended by alumni members and friends.
Theme of the night is Beijing Olympics. We have invited Chinese Consul General Madam Zhu Taoying, Consul Mr. Huo Ming Wu, Vice Consul Ms. Li Xia and Deputy Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office Mr. Y.C. Chan as our guests. Madam Zhu and Mr. Chan gave speeches on the games – briefing us on the progress China and Hong Kong have made to host this world event. The speeches were supplemented by lively videos of China in the mood for Olympics and Hong Kong getting ready for its equestrian games.
A short presentation on our association and its activities was made that evening. We shared our joy over outdoor events, Cultural Fund activities, HKU mentorship program and fund-raising film show that have taken place in the past year. Audience was most excited by our biggest-ever lucky draw – thanks to board members, Chinese Consulate General and HKETO for their generous donations!
