June 14, 2026 Hong Kong Joint Universities Alumni (Ontario) – Milliken District Park

We are excited that HKJU (Hong Kong Joint Universities) is organizing a picnic for alumni of various universities from Hong Kong.  

Date: Sunday, June 14 (10:00 AM to 4:00 PM)

Location: Milliken District Park (Shelter C) 

Address: 5555 Steeles Ave E, Scarborough, ON M9L 1S7

Fee:    $25 For ages 12+ / $15 for ages 6-12 /   FREE for Children under 6

Activities:  Park orienteering, Games, Lucky Draw, Great Food, Mingle & Connect

Lunch: Gourmet Chinese lunch (vegetarian options available with prior registration, arrangements will be made by the organizers)

Parking:  Free parking for Milliken District Park is available, with the main lot located at 5555 Steeles Ave E (between McCowan Rd & Middlefield Rd) and additional parking at the Milliken Park Community Recreation Centre (4325 McCowan Rd).

Park Rules: Smoking, consuming alcoholic beverages, using amplifiers, car sound systems, CD players, or radios are prohibited in the park. Tents larger than 10 feet by 10 feet are not allowed.

Hong Kong Joint Universities Alumni (HKJU) presents the 25th Anniversary Annual Dinner on October 18, 2025 (Saturday). We warmly invite you to join this memorable evening filled with celebration, fine dining, and live entertainment.

Badminton and Pickleball activities for 2025-26 academic year

Dear all,

I am writing to give an update about the badminton and pickleball activities for 2025-26 academic year.

🏸 Badminton
• Venue: St. Robert Catholic High School
   8101 Leslie St, Thornhill, ON L3T 7P4
 • Day/Time: Thursdays, 8:15–10:15 PM (suggested to arrive at 8pm)
 • Date: Sept 18, 2025 – June 11, 2026 (36 weeks, excluding Dec 25, Jan 1 & March 19)
 • Max Participants: 24
 • Fees: $5 per session OR $160 for full season

✅ Shuttlecocks (plastic and occasionally feather) provided
✅ Bring your own racket
✅ Non-marking shoes required

🏓 Pickleball
• Venue: Hodan Nalayeh Secondary School
   155 New Westminster Dr, Thornhill, ON L4J 8P9
 • Day/Time: Fridays, 6–8 PM
 • Season: Sept 19, 2025 – June 12, 2026 (33 weeks, excluding Nov 7, Nov 28, Dec 26, Jan 2, March 20, Apr 3)
 • Max Participants: 16
 • Fees: $5 per session OR $150 for full season

✅ Pickleballs provided
✅ Bring your own racket
✅ Non-marking shoes required

📌 Registration
Preference will be given to HKUAAO members, followed by HKUAAO newcomers and their immediate families.

Red – BU, HKU, LNU, PU & UST
White – CU, CHU, CityU & SYU

Events
Basketball – 5 on 5 full-court competition
Pickleball – Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles & Mixed Doubles

Eligibility
HKJU alumni/spouse/partner
Each alumnus can only register for one event, i.e. either basketball or pickleball men’s doubles or pickleball women’s doubles or pickleball mixed doubles
Representatives of the Alumni Association are responsible for verifying alumni status of registrants.
If an alumnus has multiple AAs status that are in Red or White group, he/she has the right to choose which group he/she will play for.

First registration starts on Friday Jul 25 and will close on Wednesday, Aug 13, 2025
Depending on responses, there may be a second registration window if necessary

Capacity of Events

Basketball –
2 Red teams and 2 White teams, a maximum of 30 Red team players &
30 White team players including coaches
For Red teams, the first 7 players in each AA to register are guaranteed a spot.
Any extra registrants will be considered if there are leftover spots.
For White teams, the first 6 players in each AA to register are guaranteed a spot.
Any extra registrants will be considered if there are leftover spots.

Tentative Rules of the Events
1. Format – Single elimination knockout
2. Teams – Four teams, 2 from group Red and 2 from group White
3. Players – A maximum of 15 players in each team including coaches
4. Duration – Two halves of 15 minutes, i.e. 30 minutes playing time in each game
5. There must be at least a women’s player on the court at all times

Pickleball –
32 Red teams & 32 White teams, a total of 64 Red team players and 64 White team players
For Red teams, the first 16 players in each AA to register are guaranteed a spot.
Any extra registrants will be considered if there are leftover spots.
For White teams, the first 12 players in each AA to register are guaranteed a spot.
Any extra registrants will be considered if there are leftover spots.
Alumni who cannot find a partner can register individually and HKJU will try its best to match a playing partner.

Tentative Rules of the Events
1. Single elimination knockout, double elimination knockout, round robin and/or other formats will be decided after the first registration deadline (depending on the no. of entries in each category)
2. Each match consists of the best of 3 games (either 11 points or 15 points per game, to be determined).
3. A point will be awarded to the team that wins the rally. The rule of ‘You can only score points on your serve score’ will not apply.
4. Individuals in Red teams and White teams can only pair up with AAs alumni within their group
