
The hiking buddies of HKUAABC, Canada traded their hiking boots for binoculars as the team visited the renowned George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Delta, British Columbia!
November is the prime season to witness the spectacular annual migration of thousands of snow geese arrriving for the winter from Russia. It was an incredible natural spectacle and a perfect, relaxing outing for a sunny Saturday morning.

The George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary encompasses nearly 300 hectares of managed wetlands, treed pathways, intertidal marshes, and channels in the heart of the Fraser River Estuary. For the millions of birds seeking feeding and refuge areas during their annual migrations along the Pacific Coast, the Sanctuary provides vital habitat are protection. Nearly 300 species of birds have been recorded at the Sanctuary, with the highest diversity and numbers typically observed from fall to spring.
The George C. Reifel Migratory Bird Sanctuary is one of the most popular nature viewing areas in the Greater Vancouver metropolitan area and is ranked among the Top 10 bird-watching sites in Canada. Numerous bird species were sighted on the day, including snow geese, bald eagles, blue herons, mallards, wood ducks, kingfishers, and red-winged blackbirds, among others.

It was certainly a great day for HKUAA BC hiking enthusiasts to connect with nature and admire the beauty of birds!
