On October 11, 2025, over seventy enthusiastic alumni gathered in Toronto to toast a special milestone—the 40th anniversary of the Hong Kong University Alumni Association of Ontario, Canada. The festive celebration was made even more memorable with the presence of HKU leadership, including President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Xiang Zhang, Vice-President (Institutional Advancement) Professor Yang Wang, along with Mr W. K. Tsang, Director of the President’s Office, and Ms Monica Wong, Director of Alumni Affairs. Adding extra pride to the event was the attendance of Professor Lap-Chee Tsui, HKU Foundation Chairman, HKU’s 14th Vice-Chancellor and Honorary Chairman of HKUAA of Ontario. It was a joyful gathering filled with camaraderie, stories, and plenty of Hong Kong University spirit!
The delegation and attendees received a warm welcome from Ms. Margaret Law 羅小雲 (BA), President of the HKU Alumni Association of Ontario and Mr Godwin Chan, Deputy Mayor of Richmond Hill Ontario.
At the 40th Birthday Cake-cutting, Professor Zhang took the opportunity to thank Ontario alumni for their steadfast support of HKU — a true testament to the strong bond between the university and its Ontario community.
The HKUAA of Ontario truly shines among offshore alumni networks, especially for its active support to exchange mentees and the newcomers support programme. They’ve also established the HKU Ontario Student Exchange Scholarship, encouraging students to explore exchange opportunities at Ontario universities and broaden their international horizons. It’s a vibrant, supportive community that keeps the HKU spirit thriving across borders!
