[Jul 2, 2025] CAAD Futures 2025 | Balancing Architectural Works and Social Contributions

In the first week of July, the CAAD Futures 2025 conference ‘Catalytic Interfaces’ will be held at the University of Hong Kong. Prof. Shigeru Ban, 2014 Pritzker Prize laureate and one of the world’s most influential architects (普立茲克獎得主及著名建築師坂茂) , will be a keynote speaker at CAAD Futures 2025. Renowned for his humanitarian design work and his pioneering use of sustainable materials such as paper tubes, Ban has redefined the role of the architect as both a designer and a socially engaged innovator.

In this keynote, Prof. Ban will reflect on over four decades of architectural practice that bridges iconic cultural landmarks with post-disaster relief efforts. Drawing from projects like the Centre Pompidou-Metz and emergency shelters for displaced communities, he will share his belief that architecture must go beyond formal expression to serve humanity.

This is a rare opportunity to hear firsthand how architecture can be reimagined as a discipline of ethics, resilience, and civic responsibility.
