A Gift to Transform Life Science and Medicine

A magnificent gift of HK$400 million is received from HKU's long-term supporter Mrs May Tam 譚麥美燕女士. The gift will be equally shared for the establishment of the Tam Wing Fan Institute of Advanced Life Science and the Tam Wing Fan Medical Development Fund.

The late Mr Edmund Tam Wing Fan 譚榮芬先生 (BArch 1956; Honorary University Fellow 2019) and Mrs May Tam (Honorary University Fellow 2023) have been steadfast supporters of the University.

The Institute will enable ground-breaking discoveries in life science research, leading to breakthroughs that benefit communities worldwide. This aligns with the HKSAR Government's Life & Health Sciences Initiative and the national plan to advance cutting-edge technologies focused on people's health.

The Fund will focus on three areas: neuroscience, cancer and related medicine, and community engagement programmes, including the Tam Wing Fan Better Care Scheme. This Scheme will cover a patient-care subsidy programme and health education. The Fund will also support various initiatives, such as research, education and clinical trials. It will play a pivotal role in advancing medical research and translational applications.
