“Research, innovation and knowledge exchange are the pillars underpinning HKU’s drive to become a world-leading University. HKU is expanding, stepping up strategic research partnerships, and attracting the world’s top science and engineering talent,” said President Xiang Zhang at the opening ceremony on December 28, 2021.
The establishment of the Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing and the Innovation Academy was made possible with a generous gift of HK$140 million from Mr and Mrs Tam Wing Fan.
In 2020, Innovation Wing One and the Academy started operations focusing on innovation education. The newly opened Innovation Wing Two serves as an enabling platform for Engineering researchers to interact and collaborate synergistically with researchers across various disciplines to tackle grand challenges and deliver research outputs with significant impact to Hong Kong and global communities.
“The collection of talent, faculty and students collaborating on new ideas, the research that is stimulated, the innovations that blossom, and the impact produced, will ultimately lead to a greater good for the world we live in,” said Mrs May Tam.
