Newsletter of HKU MPA Alumni Association 2006

Dear members,

Since the inauguration last year, in pursuance of our pledge, the HKU Master of Public Administration Alumni Association (the Association) has done a variety of activities for the purpose of fulfilling our objectives. Now, I think it is the right time for me to give you an update about the Association.

Through the concerted efforts of our members, the Association has successfully organized a technical visit to the Fire Services Communication Centre on 26 February 2006, an academic luncheon on 1 April 2006 and a visit to the Court of Final Appeal of Macau on 21 April 2006. These events have brought together alumni members, academics, experts to discuss the latest issues and challenges in the disciplines of public administration. This is to assure you that the objectives of the Association are not only enshrined in words but have been persistently pursued.

We are not satisfied with what we have achieved. We will continue to foster communication between different sectors of the society and the Association through diverse channels and informal contacts. As such, we will also enhance our activities in the coming months.

We will have a Lamma Island hiking followed by a seafood dinner on 12 November 2006. Our 2006 Annual General Meeting (AGM) cum academic luncheon will be held on 16 December 2006.

For these, may I request you to mark down in your diary and wish to meet you all in the upcoming events. For the hiking, we have already settled down all the things. For details, please browse our website http://www.alumni.hku.hk/mpaaa/index.html. At the same time, our committee members are now embarking on the preparation work for the AGM cum academic luncheon. On this occasion, it is our greatest honour to have Mr. Kwong Ki-Chi, G.B.S, promised to be our guest speaker at the luncheon talk and the title is "The Ten Commandments." I think all of you are very eager to know how to enroll in the luncheon and I will let you know as soon as possible.

Regarding the recruitment exercise, thanks to the dedication of our members, we have recruited 14 members recently. As at today, we have 34 life members and 40 ordinary members. Undoubtedly, both you and the committee would share the view that the result is far from satisfactory. We need more members to fortify the foundation of the Association. Here, may I appeal to you to introduce your classmates to join this family, building a concrete base to further our objectives.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my warmest thanks to all of you for your continued support and encouragement to the Association.
