We are pleased to advise that the HKU Arts Alumni Association will be organising a luncheon talk in November, details of which are as follows:

Guest Speaker: Sir David Tang
Topic: Art and Culture Ad Nauseam
Date: Tuesday, 10th November, 2009
Time: 12:30 p.m.
Venue: The China Club, 13/F., The Old Bank of China Building, Bank Street, Central, Hong Kong
Cost: HK$380 per head (beverages other than Chinese tea will be charged on individual's consumption basis)

A well-known figure on the international arts and culture scene, Sir David Tang was born in Hong Kong and educated in Hong Kong, Cambridge, London and Beijing, where he taught at Peking University.

Sir David is passionate about art and music. He has been an avid collector of Chinese contemporary art for 20 years. A founder of the London University Chamber Music Society, he has also given solo piano performances and conducted lecture concerts with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. He is a director of the Glenn Gould Foundation.

In Britain, Sir David is a trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts Trust; Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Acquisitions Committee at Tate Modern; Member of the Chairman's Group at the South Bank Centre; President of the London Bach Society; and Advisor to both the London Symphony Orchestra and the English Chamber Orchestra.

In China and Hong Kong, he was Director of the First Annual Exhibition of China Oil Paintings (1992) and Vice-Chairman of the Guangzhou Triennial (2008). He is also Patron of the Hong Kong Students' Open Music Competition; Patron of the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation; a Founding Director of The Asia Art Archives, and a member of the Board of Governors of The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.

The luncheon talk will be a rare opportunity for a face-to-face discussion with Sir David Tang on what we love and hate about art and culture.
