Newly Elected Executive Committee Session 2016-2017
The Ex-com Session 2016-2017 had been elected in the Annual General Meeting held on 19 August 2016.
Ir Paul POON Wai Yin was elected as the President. Four Vice Presidents were also elected. They are Ir Ken CHAN Man Kin, Ir LUK Wai Hung, Ir Alex KWAN King Fai, Alex and Ir CHAN Yiu Ming. Ir Peter HO Pan Wai and Ir Steve LAM Ho Yin are the Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer respectively.
The Ex-com also includes our Immediate Past President Ir Alfred CHAN Wing Kin BBS and committee members Mr Kenny NG Ho Chuen, Mr Jimmy CHEUNG Ngai Hang, Ir Alex WONG Wai Keung, Ir Robert CHAN Ying Kin, Ir Albert LAM Fun Sing, Mr Vincent LAU Chung Hay. The Dean of Faculty of Engineering and the Chairperson of the Engineering Society, HKUSU are our ex-officio members.
In addition, we are honoured to have Ir Dr Joseph CHOW Ming Kuen, OBE, JP, our Honorary Life President, and Ir Mak Chai Kwong GBS JP as our Special Advisors.
41st Annual Dinner and Dance (21 January 2017)
The 41st Annual Dinner and Dance of HKUEAA was held successfully at Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong on 21st January 2017. With the theme "Fusion", we gathered over 330 alumni, students and friends joining us for the memorable night.
It brought alumni, teachers, students, scholars and friends together and acted as a great chance to raise much needed funds for our scholarship and Alumni Association development.
We were grateful for the presence of Mr Paul Chan Mo-po(Financial Secretary), Ir Eric, Ma Siu-cheung (Secretary for Development), Professor Tsui Lap Chee(Founding President of the Academy of Sciences of Hong Kong, the immediate-past Vice Chancellor of The University of Hong Kong), Prof Norman Tien (Dean of Engineering, HKU), Ir Dr Lo Wai-kwok (Legislative Councillor, Functional Constituency - Engineering), Hon Frankie Yick (Legislative Councillor, Functional Constituency - Transport) and CEOs from the Engineering industry.
In recognition and appreciation of Ir Mak Chai Kwong GBS JP's continuous support and significant contribution to the Alumni Association, we were honoured to appoint him as our Special Advisor at the evening.
The fun-filled evening started with sharing from the Ex-Co members and guests, followed by trophy and scholarship presentation, Joe Junior's singing show, our famous lucky draw and floor dancing. Chats and exchanges of the latest news at the tables were only disturbed by the consumption of the delicious dinner.

Career Expo Part I - Pathfinder 2016 (24 September 2016)
The Career Expo Part I was successfully held on 24 September 2016 by HKUSU Engineering Society, HKUEAA, Faculty of Engineering and HKIESC - HKU. More than 50 students attended the Expo to understand their way to professional qualifications and future career. A presentation on pathway for professional qualifications was first presented by Professor Tham, followed by a tea gathering where students and alumni exchanged ideas and knowledge. We would like to thank all the helpers and participants who made this Expo an enjoyable and memorable event.

HKUEAA One Day Trip to Huawei and BYD (17th January 2017)
Following on from the success of the 2016 trip to China in December, the HKUEAA organised a one-day trip to visit the headquarters of two high profile Chinese companies based in Shenzhen: Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and BYD Co Ltd.
A delegation of 32 students and alumni received a comprehensive tour of the Huawei Information and Communications Technologies centre. Various state-of-the-art network switch, cloud, and next generation eLTE mobile technologies were shown-off and introduced by the Huawei staff. Our delegates also received hands on experience with the Huawei systems in the Industrial Applications Center, which included a 1-to-1 panoramic video conferencing setup.
Throughout the visit, participants were able to learn more about Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd.; a Chinese multinational networking and telecommunications equipment and services company headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong. It is the largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer in the world, after overtaking Ericsson in 2012.
In the afternoon the visit continued on to the BYD Co Ltd headquarters. Here delegates learnt about the company's humble roots in battery manufacturing, and its growth to become an industry leader in electrical vehicle technology & OEM mobile phone components. Delegates were given the opportunity to see the whole line of BYD vehicles accompanied by detailed explanations on their internal structure and technologies. The companies latest Yun-Gui Monorail technologies and EV charging infrastructure were also presented.
The visits were a great success, and our delegation was able to learn and inquire local experts about the state of mainland China's leading engineering companies and technologies. We would like to extend our thanks to both Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. and BYD Co Ltd. for supporting this event.
Career Expo Part II - Job Hunt 2017 (17 February 2017)
The Career Expo Part I was successfully held on 24 September 2016 by HKUSU Engineering Society and HKUEAA. Ir Luk Wai-hung gave a lot of useful advice to the students during his presentation about "Interview preparation and skills". He taught students how to do research about the company and how to respond to difficult questions from the interviewers.
Ir Dickie Chan shared many CV writing skills with the students. He answered many students' questions about the Do's and Don'ts in writing a good CV.
Graduate Mentor Scheme 2017
The Graduate Mentor Scheme (GMS) has been one of the most important annual events for the engineering students and alumni since 2001. The GMS has cultivated intimate and long lasting relationships amongst students and graduates, providing a platform for mutual sharing and support. Our mentor database has over 120 HKU alumni who are prominent figures in both engineering and non-engineering fields. This year, GMS will be jointly organized by H.K.U. Engineering Alumni Association (HKUEAA), Faculty of Engineering, and Engineering Society, HKUSU (ENS, HKUSU).

CLP Career Series - Job Shadowing Programme (6-8 March 2017)
HKUEAA would co-organize a job shadowing programme with CLP Power Hong Kong Ltd. (CLP) to allow students in experiencing daily duty of an engineer in CLP and enhance their understanding of the power industry. During the days, students will follow CLP engineers to observe and assist their daily work.
Technical Visit to DCS North Plant and EMSD Education Path (22 April 2017)
During the visit, participants will learn more about the operation and mechanism of the District Cooling System (DCS) which produces chilled water at central chiller plants and distributes the chilled water to user buildings through underground pipes for air-conditioning purpose. They will also understand the advantages and disadvantage of the system.
There will also a guided tour on the EMSD education path. Participants will walk around the three exhibition areas and the rooftop viewing gallery. The walk will raise their awareness of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies.
Technical Visit to AAHK (24 June 2017)
Participants will have the chance to visit the new Airport Midfield Concourse which is located at the west of Terminal 1 and between the two existing runways. Participants will be allowed to enter some restricted areas to understand the logistics operation as well as the engineering design of the concourse.
End of May - Early June 2017:Innovation and Sustainable Development - Israel
Every year HKUEAA organizes an overseas study tour to visit a city outside Hong Kong with the aim to provide HKU engineering alumni and students the opportunity to explore the sustainable engineering and innovations of different culture. This year, we will visit Israel, one of the most innovative countries in the world.
This study tour is proposed to be held in May/June 2017, tentatively from 28 May 2017 to 3 June 2017. A group of 20 alumni and students will join. For more information, please stay tuned with our official webpage.
