HKUAAO Scholarship for Student Exchange
In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of our Alma Mater, we are looking into the establishment of a scholarship fund to encourage worthy HKU students to join exchange programs in Ontario universities to broaden their learning experience.
Our target is to raise HK$200,000 (about CAD $26,000 at current exchange rate) and to get a matching amount from the Hong Kong Government grant to yield a pool of HK$ 400,000. This will provide 2 scholarships of HK$12,000 annually for an estimated duration of 15 years. Details of the proposed scholarship are described on the
sheet attached.

Dec 9, 2012 - HKUAAO attained champions in the Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles, first runner-up in Women’s Singles and Mixed Doubles in Group A events, and first runner-up in Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles in Group B events. We came in second overall after PolyU Alumni.
Fall Color Hiking Oak Ridges Trail, King City
On April 29, 2012, we were happy to have Professor Tsui around and to get firsthand updates of the development in HKU. The dinner was well-attended by over fifty alumni and friends.
TableTennis Family Match
The Table Tennis Interest Group organized a friendly match for its members on August 26 at the CCTTA. The joy and laughter continued during dinner.
Karaoke Get-together 2
The second karaoke get-together was held at PolyArt Music Studio on Saturday, June 16, 2012. Again it drew a crowd of 17 participants.
Table Tennis Tournament & Dinner
On June 2, 2012, the TT Interest Group had a doubles tournament at CCTTA, with 22 players participating in the event. It was a fun-filled event with a Chinese poem competition.
Victoria Day Hiking - Woodland Trail
The Victoria Day trail hiking has become an annual tradition for HKUAAO by now. This year’s hike took place on May 21, 2012 at the Rouge River Conservation area and was well supported by more than 30 members and friends.
Joint U Bowling Tournament
The Joint HKU’s Alumni Associations 2012 Bowling Tournament was held on May 6 2012. HKUAOO proudly sent a full team of 5 players to compete for the HK Cup and we put up a spirited fight.
Dinner with VC Prof. Lap-chee Tsui
On April 29, 2012, we were happy to have Professor Tsui around and to get firsthand updates of the development in HKU. The dinner was well-attended by over fifty alumni and friends.
2012 Annual Dinner & AGM
Our 2012 AGM Dinner was held at the Diamond Chinese Restaurant in Markham on March 4. The dinner was well attended with over eighty alumni, mentees and friends from fellow alumni associations of other Hong Kong based universities.
Karaoke Get-together 1
The Karaoke Interest Group had its first get-together this year on February 26. Over twenty people participated at Tam’s Music Studio.
TableTennis Interest Group 新春團拜
On Jan 28, over 20 members and spouses celebrated the New Year together. The fun was evidenced on the happy faces in the photo taken.
HKU 100th year Celebration Banquet
It was a memorable event. We had a total of fourteen alumni and spouses from Ontario attending the grand party on December 18, 2011 in HK.
Mentor/Mentee Gathering - Hiking at Erindale Park
Our 2011 mentor/mentee hiking gathering at Erindale Park was held on October 16, 2011 with overwhelming participation of more than 30 members, mentees, family members and friends. Erindale Park in Mississauga. Weather was excellent for the hiking and BBQ .
TT Interest Group In-house Doubles Tournament
The table tennis interest group members have regular practices on Saturdays and Sundays at the CCTTA. The group played an In-house Doubles Tournament (雙打友誼賽) on July 16, 2011 and October 9, 2011. During the games, we have not only discovered many talents and “New Stars” in playing table tennis, but unveiled many talents in composing poems.
Hiking at Upper Rouge River Valley
Our hiking at the Upper Rough River Valley on Sep 11, 2011 was supported by members, friends and 12 exchange mentees from HKU.
Victoria Day Hiking - Scotsdale Farm
To celebrate Victoria Day 2011, we had a hiking for about 10km loop of mainland side trails of BruceTrail in Scotsdale Farm area to enjoy the spring wildflowers and greenery.

HKU Mentorship Program
The HKU Mentorship Programme was established in 1997. Not only was it the first such program in Hong Kong’s institutions of higher education, it was so successful that it had also become an exemplar of similar programs.
HKUAAO is a strong supporter of the HKU’s Mentorship Programme. For over 10 years, many of our alumni have volunteered to act as mentors to HKU exchange students (“mentees”) who came to Canadian universities in Ontario and Quebec for one or two semesters under the HKU Worldwide Student Exchange Programme.
Often this may be the first time that the students are far away from home. Mentors can provide invaluable assistance to the mentees in helping them quickly settle down and adapt to their new environment. Over time, mentors and their mentees establish a unique relationship through which mentors will help provide guidance to enhance their mentee’s development and at the same time gain insights into the younger generations’ points of view. Through participation in the Mentorship Programme, mentors can maintain contact with academia and have the satisfaction of knowing that they are playing a role in the development of young inquisitive minds.
