A chemistry scholar, Professor Hor specialises in the design, synthesis and structural analysis of novel molecules. EurASc has about 600 Fellows, over 10% of whom are Nobel Laureates and Fields Medalists from over 40 countries. Details.

A Medical team led by Professor Yuen Kwok-yung 袁國勇, Henry Fok Professor in Infectious Diseases, and Dr Shuofeng Yuan 袁碩峰 discovered a chemical compound that could lead the way to a novel broad-spectrum antiviral drug. The finding was publishing in leading journal Nature Communications (image). Details.
Engineering Scholars Elected IEEE Fellows
Dr Lijun Jiang 姜立軍 of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Professor Yizhou Yu 俞益洲 of the Department of Computer Science were elected as 2019 Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world's largest association of technical professionals. Award from China Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering
Professor Z Q Yue 岳中琦 from the Department of Civil Engineering and his team won the second class award of the 9th Science and Technology Award from the China Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering. They studied why large ancient underground rock caverns, the Longyou Grottoes in Zhejiang Province, remained intact for thousands of years. Details.

An engineering postgraduate team led by Associate Professor Ray Su 蘇啟亮 designed and constructed a building model capable of withstanding an earthquake. They won six awards at "Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools". Details.

Implant Start-up to Compete Globally
Lifespans, a start-up formed by HKU professors and alumni, won top prize at the Inaugural Hello Tomorrow Singapore Regional Summit. It tackles complications stemming from orthopaedic implants mostly used by the elderly. As regional champions, Lifespans will be in competition at the Global Summit in March in Paris. Details.
