21 July 2020 Open in web browser Ann Hui at HKU 190th Congregation (left) and “A Simple Life 桃姐” Special Fundraising Screening in 2012
Congratulations to Ann Hui (BA 1969; MA 1973; Hon DSocSc 2014; Honorary University Fellow), the first Chinese female film director to be bestowed the honour.
“Ann Hui is one of Asia's most respected, prolific, and versatile directors of our times; her career spans four decades and touches every film genre. From the outset, she has been acknowledged as one of the pivotal figures of the so-called Hong Kong New Wave.” — Alberto Barbera, Director of the Venice Film Festival
“ ‘I can put together a passionate message best by being dispassionate. I can shoot best without thinking of changing society’. She has the uncanny knack of exciting passion in her audiences whilst strictly controlling her own passion in the production process. Ann's outstanding work has undoubtedly played a significant role in shaping Hong Kong's identity and presenting it to the outside world.” Citation at 190th Congregation
Cultural intelligence in leadership
July 24 (Fri) | 6:30pm HKT
Why would you not want to be inclusive in your business? The current reversion from globalism to nationalism gives some hints. It should be easier for an individual firm, department, division, office or project team to pursue the productivity and social gains from cultural diversity than it is for a whole country... Cultural intelligence does not only apply to ethnic, language, religious, political, geographical and social dividing lines but also to professional cultures.
