“My mom was thinking about putting me in international school so it would be easier. But my dad was like, ‘no, if we are going to stay in Hong Kong, he has to go to local school and learn Cantonese with locals to be successful in the society’.”

“I got zero mark in all the Chinese dictations during junior secondary. I kept on saying, ‘I don’t want to take this one, please change me to the easy one.’ But my mother said no. It was so hard to catch up from zero. Later on I improved a lot.”

The Jockey Club Lab for Cultural Diversity Study Multi-lingual booklet on Ethnic Minority tells the stories of 23 youth and young adults between the ages of 18 and 33 with family heritage in South or Southeast Asia. Read their stories in English, Chinese, Tagalog, Thai, Nepali, Hindi, Bahasa and Urdu.

Hollo Team members Cameron van Breda, Ajit Krishna Namakkal Raghavendran and Piyush Jha noticed that mental health aid was not reaching the younger generations in their communities effectively and envisioned a future of tech-based, accessible, and comprehensive mental health management tools. With this in mind, they developed a mental health companion web app leveraging Azure analytics and AI services to advance youth therapy practices.

This is the first team from Hong Kong to have won the World Championship since the launch of the Microsoft Imagine Cup in 2003.
